Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Final Episode

No alternate dimensions for us…it’s a pity. There could have been speculation that the entire series was just a dream made up by that first fairy. Everything would have been a lie. But nope…just general heartwarming and growing up stuff…making friends and whatnot. Ending a show at the beginning of the story…chronology is overrated?

Anyone else wonder why the library in that school had so much BL material for Y? She had stacks and stacks of books in her secret room…what kind of school was this? But my random musings aside, pretty interesting experience this show was. Everything was super quirky and pretty amusing. A lot of things may have been a bit confusing (still don’t understand the fairies…especially why they haven’t gone extinct yet). Oh well, it’s been fun.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 11

Continuing to go further and further into the past. Now we’re back to 10-year-old Watashi. I’m not sure what to make of this episode. Is Watashi trapped in another fairy dimension after she broke down in her loneliness? The way that other girl is acting is too excessive to be normal, so I’d say that’s the best bet.

The fairy brings up an interesting question of fairy death. Was it trying to say that fairies just come in and out of existence rather than formal birth or death? I’m not sure if this story will continue next week, but if it does, I would predict that Y (I think that’s her name) will show up to pull Watashi out of my theoretical fairy dimension and become her first friend…that’s normally how these things work, right?

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 10

Well, I guess we have another “episode 1” for this week. This time, Watashi’s first job as Mediator. I’m thinking you could definitely watch these episodes chronologically (based on story timeline) without losing anything in the experience. I wonder why they’re released in this way.

At any rate, I still have the same question of why the fairies are not in decline themselves. I still think their rapid growth should have pushed them towards their own decline by this point. Especially since all we see in this series is that they tend to repeat what mankind does (although to a more comical sense). I also wonder how a show like this ends…more than likely a status quo sort of ending where nothing changes. Or maybe the last episode is the first episode…who knows?

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 9

Short little arc this time…I guess mostly to give a bit more insight into the fairies. So they’re basically just a much more prolific form of humans…able to go through generations in a matter of hours (rather than decades). I wonder why they haven’t declined themselves. If humanity has declined in this series, I’m sure the fairies should be reaching a similar period of time if you adjust for their particular growth.

Also, slight inconsistency in this week’s episode…how did the fairies create electricity if they mentioned before that EM waves are harmful to them? Or was it something else? Either way, I’m starting to feel like I’ve got a better idea of them (finally). Good fun.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 8

What the heck? The assistant spoke! This is complete madness! I mean, the wilder form of him was pretty crazy (edit: my mistake…this was actually the grandfather…thanks to Vance for pointing it out!), but the idea that the assistant we’ve known up to now spoke as well is pretty nuts. I didn’t expect him to ever speak. But that aside, this episode was a bit weird, I guess. I hope I understood everything correctly.

Basically, we have this idea that the assistant imprinted his identity based on how people described him, so he was going to the forest to find out how Watashi wanted him to be or something. I wonder where that first personality came from, though…the grandfather’s descriptions? Oh well…time travel is always fun.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 7

Time loop has engaged. Time travel is always interesting (I wrote a whole post on it, after all). The perception of time in this show are fairly consistent with my own theory. Basically, the fairies created their own time/space zone and are transporting Watashis from different timelines to it. You could think of it as the “original” Watashi is being transported into the other Watashis’ timelines to live out their stuff for them while they’re being collected. Of course, this doesn’t explain why they all have the same memories, though.

But theories aside, it looks like this show is actually moving backwards in time since Watashi hasn’t met the assistant yet. I wonder how long they’ll keep showing the past rather than advancing further. Oh well…time travel is always fun…it’s possible they’ve been ordering the episodes like this on purpose so they can make references to the previous episodes in this time travel arc. We’ll have to see.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 6

I like the mentality of this arc. All you see these days are movies and TV shows and whatnot where sentient robots overthrow their human oppressors and take control. In this show, we see a society that developed some form of artificial intelligence, but has declined for a completely different reason. I suppose technically, Pion and Oyage weren’t designed to be sentient robots, but they didn’t try to come back and start a robot rebellion or something like that. That gets old after a while.

So I think I read somewhere that this arc seemed like a prequel to the first few episodes, and I have to agree (or maybe the show said that was the case and I just missed it). Remember that Watashi’s hair developed a life of its own after it regrew, so I highly doubt it would have just sit back and allowed itself to be cut. It definitely would have grabbed the scissors and stuff…so I guess this is an episode showing why Watashi’s hair was cut originally. And as usual, the assistant is awesome…I felt bad for him when his sword and shield were confiscated. Poor guy.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 5

So, apparently there is now electricity in the village, and with it has come a robot cat girl name Pion (something that actually has a name? works for me). And apparently the fairies are vulnerable to electromagnetic waves…interesting. That actually makes little sense.

Assuming they’re an evolved form of humans, then theoretically evolution wouldn’t occur so quickly, meaning that humanity would have been without electricity for quite a while (I assume electricity would disappear while humans were declining). I would think that humanity would go extinct by the the time the fairies could evolve. I suppose they could have evolved in some secluded area and then spread out once electricity disappeared. But maybe I’m just over-thinking things as usual. Might just be better off sitting back and watching cat girls destroy robot dogs…

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 4

Hmm…why bother with the ratings and all the art that comes with going to the next panel? Just pick a panel and chill there forever with your endless supply of food and such. Of course, it’s useless to someone like me with absolutely no artistic sense, but hey…beats living in a declined human society.

Then again…are we entirely certain that this whole episode wasn’t just a dream? I guess Watashi (or whatever her name is) knows the fairies better than I do…I’ve got no idea whether this sort of thing fits their style. Meh…this show’s amusing, but there’s not really much I can say about it. I could go on and on about the symbolism, but avoid that is sorta the reason I was a science major.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Episode 3

The lost technology of manga! Well, I suppose that some can rest assured knowing that even if humanity starts to decline, we’ll still have manga to read…assuming you’re open to reading anything (note that all the fan letters were voiced with female voices). This episode was pretty funny with the main character (Watashi?) so worried about what would happen if the fairies found out about this mythical manga…clearly she was right to worry. Lots of implications about general economic theory and property rights and whatnot, but I’m not really the type to read too much into that.

So, they’re trapped in a blank manga (as opposed to the typical scenario of being trapped in your favorite manga or something). So this is the kind of thing that the fairies are capable of accomplishing…there really hasn’t been much direct display of their ability to this point. So I guess next week will just be them getting out? Is it so simple? Also, I’d like to mention that I still think that Assistant is the best character…
