Whoa…this chess piece is half the size of Megumin (she’s currently holding it with her right hand in this picture).

First off, this means that her level is irrelevant. Secondly, I’ve been playing Fire Emblem too much because I immediately reacted with “this trash character with crappy growth rates”.

Did I miss an episode? Because I don’t remember these guys getting so chummy with Kazuma…

I guess we really have no idea what Darkness and Megumin’s backgrounds are…just how loaded is Darkness’s family? I was starting to think this was Kazuma’s dream or something…

I don’t usually eat very high-end food, but most crab and lobster I’ve eaten is generally a bit rubbery in texture. Are expensive crabs really so slurp-able and mushy? Seriously, it’s like he’s eating a napkin. (I’M SORRY FOR BEING SO POOR)

So…Kazuma sacrifices the real-life pleasures in order to have a good dream tonight? Is there any reason he can’t just go back to the dream shop the next day and request a new dream? Even if it costs money, this dinner is free, so he should just think of it as an investment into this meal…

If anything, this episode is a good repository for reaction pictures.

The preview makes it look like they’ll be facing some kind of machine next week. If I remember correctly, one of the previous episodes had a quest that was something like “go scout the direction that a giant robot thing is heading”. Does it have something to do with that?

Also, I’ve heard next week’s episode is the last one…I’m kinda okay with that…

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo Episode 8: Haunted mansions

Given the size of that fire and the sound of the wind that’s blowing, I’m surprised that fire is still going. Also, I think that it would probably be warmer to just stay in the stables since it would at least block the wind.

She sounds like she wants a hug.

A new character? And she’s apparently an undead lich? Yeah, that was my first guess…

Wow…this girl doesn’t even get a proper introduction? We only hear about how she meets the party through anecdote? That’s a bit sad…

If people can’t normally learn lich skills, what makes him think he can? I think this line was supposed to be “people don’t normally have access to lich skills”, indicating that finding a lich to teach you is rare.

I get the feeling Verdia’s character is more fleshed out than some of the main characters in this series…seriously, why did he have to die?

It feels a lot like they skipped over the scene where Wiz really explains to Kazuma how to use Drain Touch, but they went through the effort of showing the DNA effect when he learns the skill. That really annoys me…

Uhh…”making the best of a bad situation” would be finding ways to make the stable more comfortable, not being gifted a nicer house by luck. That sounds like a pretty good situation to me. Also, where have Darkness and Megumin been living all this time? It sounds like they’re going to join Kazuma and Aqua in this mansion, so I guess their housing must not have been great.

I know that feel, buddy…that’s typical MMORPG mentality.

Typical Aqua…where are her debts even coming from if half the city is destroyed? Is it really just the bar tab?

Really? All of those adventurers got part of the reward? I really hate large-scale party events…

I don’t usually pay too much attention to the eyecatch, but I’m pretty sure Megumin is flying here. Has she ever displayed this ability yet?

Mobile fortress? Is this a steampunk world? Also, if you know that this Destroyer thing is coming, how do you not know which direction it’s heading? You had to have seen it to know it was coming, right?

Aqua interrupts this seemingly important piece of information and Kazuma just decides “eh, probably not a big deal?” Does this guy really have a high intelligence stat?

First off, how does Aqua know about this? Shouldn’t she be as ignorant of this world as Kazuma is? I understand Megumin knowing, but this is a bit much. Also, she waits until now to say this?

Are they expecting the Winter Shogun to just forget about the 9 sprites that were killed just because Aqua released 3?

Hey! He died in a stupid way again! That’s funny, right? Except it doesn’t really make sense that the Shogun only cut through the sword of Darkness but decided cut both Kazuma’s weapon and body.

This was actually kind of funny.

There were a lot of English errors in this episode, so I didn’t want to point out every one, so I’ll just go with the most obvious one here.

Retired? But why? I thought the quest said “100,000 eris per kill”. They should have earned 900,000 eris for the 9 kills, right?

First off, I totally thought that the way Kazuma was remembering Eris was just going to be the preparation for showing her major character flaw, but I guess it was just a way to distract him from the food being order…seems a bit cheap. Secondly, Darkness chooses slime monster or tentacle rape? Sigh…this is anime…

So…next week introduces a new character? Seems like it from the preview…

Wait…so Megumin has still been blowing up the castle every day? I thought she needed Kazuma to carry her back after she cast it.

Yeah, Kazuma! Thank you for being perceptive enough to realize this!

Wait…his name isn’t Dullahan? Everything I know is a lie!

Well, that’s just awkward. Too bad there’s no way for this guy to know when his curse triggers.

This is probably not something you should say after finding out your big curse was dispelled instantly…just saying.

If this were Disgaea, we would have named this guy “Mid-Boss” already. In fact, why don’t we just do that now? Also, this fight is every priest player’s dream come true.

Uhh…have the two “turn undead” shouts not tipped you off that there’s a priest standing right in front of you?

Noob priest aggroing the mob. Also, why exactly is she not just trying to turn these undead? What are the rules in this world. If we’re following D&D rules, you only have a certain number of turns per day, which means that Aqua wasted her uses on the strongest enemy.

Yeah, let’s all stand still in the vortex gathering around us while the mage speaks an incantation…this seems very smart.

The city has an “ace in the hole”? Is it Kyouya? Because I think that guy got enough screen time last week.

Wait…those rocks were destroyed by Darkness? Because she missed? Holy crap, her aim is even worse than I expected.

I know that some people are really into this kind of thing, but I think the masochism gag is getting a bit stale…doesn’t Darkness have any other ways to be funny?

Undead are weak to water? Since when? I mean, maybe holy water, but regular water shouldn’t have any effect. I can’t think of any games where undead are weak to water…anyone else got some examples?

Wait…so the head is just an accessory and not an actual part of his body? Sucks to be you, Mid-Boss.

Seriously? They devoted so much time to this gag for Darkness? It’s not funny at all…

Okay, I have to admit the “sneak away” line from Aqua was hilarious. Also, “main character gets big break only to have the money wasted instantly” cliche.

The “oh my god, what am I doing with my life?” face…don’t you hate it when that happens?

This is pretty much me in MMOs…the guy who keeps begging the party to do some harder quests. And I’m the jerk?

Again, something I would do…but for such different reasons.

I agree! It’s almost like it was put there to advance the plot and validate your role in the team!

She just needs to touch the water and the monsters will go away, right? Please tell me his idea is to lower her on a crane…or launch her into the water with a catapult. Because that would actually be funny.

Just stick her in the water with a cage to protect her while she purifies the water? Sigh…they could have made this gag so much funnier…

This feels like such a waste of a gag. They have Darkness immediately break the pattern by attempting to insist she doesn’t need to use the bathroom when she clearly does…I was more hoping that the battle against the alligators would get them trapped hiding in a cave or something. That way, the punch line of one of the girls needing to use the bathroom would be much funnier.

I mean…this is her own fault for not doing this from the start.

You see? This joke is actually funny! Because earlier in the episode, Aqua flashed her goddess status at Kazuma and insulted him for being a NEET. See what happens when it looks like your gags are actually thought out?

This is kind of a random way to introduce a new character, but sure! Not only is he from the same world as Kazuma, but it looks like he came here through Aqua as well. Given that Aqua’s team just traumatized her with the cage tactic, maybe he’ll try to convince her to join his group instead or something…

Okay, I have a problem with this scene. Remember when Aqua said that Kazuma only got to choose one thing to bring with him to the new world? In Kyouya’s case, I’m guessing he chose the sword…so where did he get that heavy armor? Kazuma showed up with the clothes he was wearing when he died and I highly doubt Kyouya was the type of guy who walked around in the modern world with a full set of armor. So, it looks like Kyouya got to choose two things, the cheating bastard.

Whoa whoa…sure this guy is misunderstanding the situation, but can you really blame him? Why do these girls hate Kyouya so much? They just don’t like pushy guys?

I hate it when swords have silly rules like “only this guy can use it”. Kazuma clearly used the sword right there…even if it wasn’t a slash, it was the same motion as a slash, just hitting with the blunt part of the sword. So how exactly is this sword limited to Kyouya? It looks like Kazuma could easily use it as a makeshift mallet. Heck, if it was really restricted to Kyouya, the Steal shouldn’t have worked at all.

Uhh…what exactly are these girls scared of? They just saw Kazuma use steal on Kyouya and get his sword. Why are they acting like they know he’ll get their panties if he uses it on them? At worst, they should only be expecting to lose a main weapon like Kyouya, which doesn’t warrant the “please don’t rape me” faces.

See? Kyouya just found out that he steals panties…there’s no reason for his allies to be so scared.

FALCON- oh I made that joke already with a different show? Fine…

Ouch…when the chuunibyou is saying that, it must really sting.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo Episode 4: Dullahan and the Headless Horse

I’m conflicted about this skill. On the one hand, having the ability to get fresh water whenever you want is pretty important in a fantasy world because indoor plumbing isn’t a thing. On the other hand, doesn’t Aqua already have Nature’s Beauty, which can produce healing water? This skill can’t be any better than hers, right?

Ignore the pervert rubbing the staff over there. She would be the kind of person to buy a new staff (for more offensive strength) rather than a charm or accessory to help with MP problems. Come on, Kazuma…you should helping these people with their purchases!

Cabbage > lettuce. I approve of this message…lettuce is such a weak vegetable sometimes…

Ignore what I just said…this is actually the face of someone who’s about to steal your money. Also, apparently high luck means better drops, which makes sense.

This might be nitpicking a bit too much, but this looks like the first time Explosion has been used as a projectile. The other two times it was used, Megumin just radiated it from the ground.

This castle is pretty resilient…either that or Megumin has really bad aim (which is also very likely).

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo Episode 3: Not the cabbages!

Oh, I see…she’s supposed to be the perverted fetishist of the group. Judging by some of her reactions, she might also be the masochist of the group, but I’ll wait to pass judgment on that.

High strength and constitution with no dexterity? Sounds like a dedicated tank to me. I understand they’re trying to make Kazuma look like an experienced gamer, but it’s like they want him to only be the strategic center of the party by giving him high intelligence and a team of players with basically no intelligence.

It’s a pretty bad skill, but at least she’s using it to get tips and fund the party, right? …RIGHT??

Well, high intelligence means high MP, right? Teaching Kazuma explosion magic might not be the worst thing in the world if the crusader is in front of the team. They could also go the route of making him the jack of all trades, but it’s unlikely given his lack of well-rounded stats.

Haha…okay, this was funny.

So that thing I said about her being the masochist of the group…yup…I guess it makes sense given her stats.

Thief skills for Kazuma? That might actually be a decent idea since thieves tend to rely on luck stats for critical stealth strikes. That being said, Chris introduced the skill as “Steal”, but Kazuma levels it up as “Pilfer”…why exactly?

Cool scene and all, but what does learning a skill have to do with your DNA? If anything, it should affect your neurons.

Well, his luck stat is high…

I understand this scene was put in here for some extra laughs, but if steal is supposed to be random, what is it using as a pool of potential items to steal? Could he have potentially stolen her robe or something? If so, doesn’t that mean that even with a high steal roll, you could still get something worthless? Seems like too much of a gamble skill to me.

Fantasy world apparently has industrial-level technology? Seems legit…that should mean there’s an engineer or gunner class, right?

Dramatic scene aside, this is the first time we’ve seen Megumin with an eyepatch in this episode. She did the same chuuni act earlier in the tavern as well…how does she decide when to use the eyepatch?

More games need quests like this…

I don’t really get the point of this scene. She’s already told us that she has no dexterity stat, so we should already be watching to make sure none of her attacks hit a target (especially a target as small as these floating cabbages).

Sigh…”enemy attacks only target female clothes” cliche…

These guys are dead, right? They’re totally dead…

Someone explain to me how using Steal on a flying cabbage is able to immobilize it…or do anything to it at all. What is there to steal??

Also, Darkness’s armor needs to decide how broken it wants to be in this post-battle scene. The cracks in her armor are literally different in every shot of her.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo Episode 2: Giant frogs everywhere!

This guy didn’t seem too shaken up about his living quarters in the last episode…now he’s suddenly complaining?

This scene just feels oddly satisfying.

The great and powerful arch priest goes in with a normal punch, ladies and gentlemen…what an amazing class.

The first indication that this girl is actually useless. Either mages are really bad without a front line or she’s actually weaker than she sounds with this “explosion magic”.

That eyepatch had strings on it? It looked to me like it was just hanging there on her eye.

Whoa whoa…hold your horses. There’s a magic stat? You’re telling me magical strength isn’t determined by intelligence? What does the intelligence stat do, then? This better be one of those games where the magic stat is determined by multiple stats, so it has its own summary stat.

Why do I get the feeling her magic is going to be a level 1 spell?

So, is explosion magic not fire attribute? This look like dark attribute.

Wow…the spell actually worked?

Oh…never mind…the frog’s still alive. Also, using all of your MP in one attack like a noob…

Can’t? How does the skill system work in this game that you can start off with advanced magic only? Also, why doesn’t explosion magic have a basic spell that doesn’t drain all of your MP?

Sigh…really? The villagers are going to shame him into taking her into her party? This scene just pisses me off…

At least the game recognizes that this guy did all the work and gives him massive experience points. And wait…didn’t Megumin claim earlier that she was a level 6 arch wizard? This level up puts Kazuma at level 5 (assuming he didn’t level up from the first giant frog fight), so why is the level 6 so impressive?

What is going on here? Do I even want to know? Also, is anyone else going to make the joke that Kazuma’s luck stat has managed to get him a party full of girls?

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo First Impressions (1): This series feels somewhat familiar

I’m a bit late on this one, but I wanted to see why this show was hyped so much. Going in, all I really know is that it’s supposed to be a “trapped-in-game” series.

I don’t personally have a problem with a guy who has both computer speakers and a headset. I do, however, have an issue with the fact that this guy has two mice…for some reason.

Well, this escalated quickly. Also, I’m assuming we’ll never see that girl again.

I’m pretty sure that’s not how the human body works, but sure…why not? Let’s have the guy die of shock from just the thought of being run over. This is a comedy, so I’ll give it a pass.

When she started laughing like that, I honestly thought she was going to say “nah, that’s not really how you died…I can’t believe you fell for that”. That would have actually been funny…unlike this.

Whoa whoa…does Jesus know you’re spouting these blasphemous words? Also, I guess this is one of those fancy afterlife situations where there’s no “punishment” outcome.

The fact that there’s a light switch sound effect when this light turns on and off makes this scene actually funny.

Judging from the way he said this, I’m going to guess he’s going to pick her.

Is this actually a mechanic? Because if so, this is hilarious.

Wait…a guild is where you get information? Isn’t it usually the tavern or the inn? What games are you playing, dude? I guess you’d go there for the tutorial and learning combat basics, but that’s not where you go to get basic information on the world.

So let me get this straight…the goddess who wanted to send the otaku to the game world that he would like so much is surprised that the otaku is okay in the game world? I guess she really was sending him off to die in this world.

Are these stats based on actual physical ability? Will this guy even be able to get a good stat if that’s the case? It better not be the cliche where his best stat is intelligence…

Sigh…every time. This means he’ll probably end up being a mage. I know that mages are overpowered in most games, but it feels like this happens every time…

Can magic even crit? Or is that not how luck works in this game? I actually don’t have a problem with this guy having high luck…it could end up being interesting.

“Female character playing the support” cliche. Also, how is a priest not an intelligence-based class? Is healing not counted as magic? Is this like the D&D universe where arcane magic and holy magic require different stats?

And didn’t the guide just say that the mage was the least appropriate class for Aqua because of her stats? Given that Aqua’s stats are the exact opposite of the main character’s stats, why is the mage not the most appropriate class for him?

This is actually pretty generic RPG intro music in this scene…

That’s the translation they decided to use for the title? Sure, why not? Also, I see a priest, a knight, and a mage…what exactly is the main character’s role? Based on the current composition, it sounds like he needs to either be a ranged DPS or a second front-liner. As for the song, I honestly don’t think it’s anything special.

I don’t fully agree with the idea that this series is a parody of the “trapped in game” series…it feels more to me like it’s just using the same elements.
