God Eater Final Episode (13): Humanity’s last hope!

Everything’s falling apart! Though that timing’s a bit too convenient…does someone have a live feed into the number of cores collected or something?

What can we do to make this guy look more evil? Oh, I know! Have him call the main characters “pawns”!

I’m thinking the same thing, Lenka, but the fact that you keep asserting that Lindow might still be alive is making me doubt myself.

Uhh…are these guys casually walking into a battlefield? I know the Vajra left, but that doesn’t make this place safe…plus, they couldn’t have known this coming out here.

Time for Lenka to take over! He’s practically LIndow, right?

Lenka’s new God Arc is pretty cool, but how is this supposed to be more efficient for him to use without dying? It looks much more powerful with seemingly no drawback…

“Destroyed evil devices explode” cliche. Soma definitely just sliced through the device, so the device itself had to blow up.

Soma approaches the electricity-wielding monster completely soaked…sounds like a good idea.

And through the power of animation magic, Soma is dry!

It sounds like the line is just “Feint?” in Japanese, but this translation is probably a misinterpretation. I’m pretty sure Soma is performing the feint, not Pita.

Well, Kota had to do something useful in the final episode, right?

Don’t you just hate boss fights? Just when you’re about to kill the boss, he turns red and becomes stronger!

So all he needed to do was have his God Arc eat the broken wing tip? Why didn’t he do that from the start? His God Arc wouldn’t let him?

My brain doesn’t know what to think anymore about who will die in this series. Both Lenka and Lindow? What’s the point of having Lenka replace Lindow if he dies immediately afterwards. There’s no way, right? I’m guessing they both live…because anime…

Let me guess…it’s secretly a weapon to purge the Aragami?

Oh…or that. How exactly are they planning on surviving in space in a rocket? In most cases, the majority of the rocket is used to propel the rocket, so it looks like the entire living area would be the size of a one-bedroom apartment.

Not necessarily true…there are some who believe that intellect puts you at an evolutionary disadvantage in most cases. This is a highly anthropocentric statement.

WHO COULD THIS SHADOW BE?

“The john” is usually used as a replacement for “toilet”, not “bathroom”, so it should be “on the john”. Unless Kota is suggesting that Alisa likes to cuddle up inside the toilet bowl, in which case I have some follow-up questions.

I don’t know what more to say about this series…I don’t know what the game was like, but I sure hope it wasn’t like this.

God Eater Episode 12: The new God Arc is here!

Well, I suppose that’s one way to stop the Aragami from grouping in one spot, but it kinds calls into question the rest of the operation.

If this thing has a jet booster, why do you even need the chopper? Just rocket the thing to the battlefield. Also, I think this line translates roughly to “your weapon has an MP bar”.

Wait..the booster is the actual God Arc? Holy crap…and we thought the weapons were comically over-sized before…

Were we ever supposed to guess that Schicksal would betray everyone? Or is this just a random plot device?

The big boss makes his appearance.

As usual, the final boss breaks all of the rules.

Reinforcements are here! Just in time!

The culprit is revealed! Uhh…who is this?

Well, this explains her demeanor when she re-joined the team. Some sort of hypnosis, I guess. Pretty convenient of her to snap out of it just in time, though.

Oh wait…they’re really shifting the focus on to her story here? I guess there isn’t much other time, but okay…they’re really making it look like Lindow’s going to die this week.

Uhh…what? Run that by me again. This sounds like an alternative way to say “the best defense is a good offense”.

Seriously, Lindow? You’re just asking for it…

Wait wait wait…they wouldn’t kill Lindow off-screen, right? This is supposed to be telling me that he’s actually alive, right?

Well, next week’s episode is the last one, so all shall be revealed.

God Eater Episode 11: Final operation start?

 

Given last week’s episode, it’s a bit hard to tell whether this is present day or another flashback…based on color scheme, I guess it’s present day.

We needed a flashback to tell us that Aragami basically eat anything (I’m pretty sure that’s what organic+inorganic means)? I guess that means all of the buildings that are lying around in ruins are now supposed to tell us that Aragami are really bad at cleaning their plates.

Scientists can’t believe in a god? Pushing some hard stereotypes here…

The music in this scene is really weird. It feels like the really suspenseful horror movie music that is building up to some big reveal, but it keeps playing even when Alisa starts talking. Then it randomly dies down when she gives the shirt back to Lenka…what’s up with that?

Woohoo! Drugs!

Lindow’s passing the buck! Time for Lenka to shine?

Uhh…that’s kind of a weird look you’re giving him, Lenka.

Random confession is random…I guess there’s not too much time left in the series. I’m more wondering if this is a death flag…

Commence the operation! Part of me was expecting them to have Lenka directing things from a helicopter over the battlefield, which would give him the option to jump in when things got bad.

Oooooh pretty fireworks!

Being a God Eater apparently means you can jump from a helicopter and land on your feet without issues.

Uhh…what the this line?

Whoever is translating these lines isn’t even trying, huh? The Vajra are headed northwest, so northwest is in danger? …duh?

Lindow’s going off by himself? Are we sure he isn’t killing himself?

What exactly are we supposed to be seeing here? Aisha turns into some crystal? Is Schicksal trying to bring her back or something?

Lindow’s stranded and no team is close enough to help him? I wonder who else they could send…

Wow…they didn’t even have him hovering in a chopper and sent him anyway? Do I get half points for guessing part of this?

I wonder which Vajra this could be…

Next week, it sounds like everyone else in Team A will meet up with Lenka, but Lindow’s line makes it sound a lot like he’s not going to make it…

God Eater Episode 10: Back after the break…

It’s been a while since we’ve seen this series, but I guess let’s do it. I had to take a quick look at some of my older posts to remind myself of what’s happening. Apparently, they’re trying to build a sanctuary from the Amagami and Lenka is dying because of the God Arc he uses. Something like that…

It wouldn’t be God Eater if it wasn’t filled with flashbacks.

I’m guessing this is Lenka? Also, this entire scene is pretty random about what parts of the scene it wants to color. I’m guessing this is done to emphasize the important parts of the shot, but it comes off as extremely lazy. I guess this is a flashback, so it’s probably nothing new. I just can’t remember from the first part of this series.

 

So let me get this straight. You stopped the series at 9 episodes…skip two seasons and come back to Lenka’s childhood? I’m starting to feel cheated.

Just throwing this out there, but medications expire…I guess it’s better than nothing, right?

Wheel placement!

Let me guess…this is the cliche story where Lenka is a crybaby until his family dies because Iroha sacrifices herself to save him or something.

If I remember correctly, one of the revelations from the first part of this series was that Lindow was helping a village of people who failed the God Eater test. Perhaps this is the inspiration for that?

Also, it’s probably a cruel irony here that Lenka eventually passes the God Eater test, which would have gotten his family into protection.

Oh no! Lenka is sick too! That means he and his mother will be competing for any medicine the group may have found!

Wait, so he takes the test and he’s positive already? So his family just neglected to go to Fenrir or what?

I think you mean “it’s just a scratch”.

I think the more important question here is where are they getting this fuel in the first place? The car was out of fuel before the last time skip too.

I don’t understand…didn’t Lindow say that family could accompany people who passed? Sure, they’re not related by blood, but Fenrir doesn’t need to know that…

Aragami wouldn’t cause these kinds of explosions, right? Maybe they blew themselves up on purpose to try to kill some of the Aragami or something…

Good thing Lindow gave you that compass!

Why does Lenka even need the compass? He should already know which way is south with how much they’ve traveled so far. I guess it’s a dramatic memento from his sister.

Good question.

Is this for real? You really think Fenrir cares about blood relationships? I get that space in Fenrir is limited, but you could have at least tried to ask them…

Can people really talk after slitting their own throat like that?

I know that we eventually needed this background on Lenka given how mysterious his origin was (we don’t even have all of the answers since that was just an adoptive family). I wonder how well this episode flows if you watch the series all at once. I’m way too biased by the break.

God Eater Episode 9: Not over yet

So this week’s episode seems to be an introduction for Soma into the cast, revealing that he is the son of Schicksal and that he was one of the original God Eaters. His emotional damage was fairly quickly healed by Lenka, though…looks like he’s officially part of the team. As for Lenka and Lindow, I take back what I said last week about them working together…it looks like I might have been right about Lenka being Lindow’s replacement after all now that Lindow is presumably being labeled a traitor.

It looks like this series is not quite done yet…the end of the episode revealed that four more episodes will be released in the winter. I’m not sure about anyone else watching this series, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have forgotten about it by then. I’m curious how this show is evaluated while watching all of the episodes at once…watching it as airs has been a pretty grueling experience personally…

God Eater Episode 8: Lifespan

This week’s episode works to establish Lenka as a capable leader. As a result, I was honestly expecting Lindow to die or be severely injured during his solo investigations (so that Lenka would be forced to replace him). Instead, Lenka was the one that received the death sentence. I guess I’m struggling with the story because everyone keeps trying to make Lenka similar to Lindow…I seriously expected Lenka’s character growth to make him a replacement.

It looks like next week’s episode will put some brilliant new plan into action. I’m not sure how splitting the Aragami into different species will make them easier to fight, but it seems like the plan is supposed to be brilliant or something. Maybe the true intention is reducing numbers, rather than lowering variability of the enemy. Either way, it also sounds (from the preview) like Lenka will getting a pretty cliche line of “if you use the God Arc again, you will die”…then he’ll probably use it anyway. Also, note that next week’s episode has been announced to be the final episode of this series…quality series, right?

God Eater Episode 7: Back in action

It looks like the focus of this week’s episode is to look a bit more at life on the outside. Lenka is also given the opportunity to revive his fallen God Arc and return to battle…and similar to last week, Alisa remains a heaping lump of useless without her medication. Admittedly, this week’s episode was more interesting than some of the past ones. I guess my main question is why the ampule was enough to revive the God Arc, but the answer that I’m guessing I will get is that the God Arc “consumed” the Aragami contained within the ampule (since the tree was supposed to be an Aragami).

Not much to get from the preview as usual…it just sounds like Lenka will return to the base and reunite with the team. I think there was something from Alisa about erasing her fear in there…either a legitimate plea for help or maybe just asking for a cheap answer (like stronger medication?). I’m curious about the bit regarding “examining the body”…is Lenka’s body being affected by how he has been using his God Arc? Or maybe his reaction to the New Type weapon is somehow different?

God Eater Episode 6: Team bonding

Well, I expected not to like Alisa’s character, and this week’s episode only served to confirm that. It seems like she’s utterly useless in combat without medication (presumably anti-anxiety pills). Other than that, this week’s episode only really served as a bonding experience for Lenka and Alisa. I’m not sure what significance I should place on the last scene with Lenka before Lindow appears, where he puts up his arms at the attacking Amagami. I guess that was supposed to be a form of surrender and Lindow was admonishing Lenka for not continuing to struggle until the end?

The preview doesn’t have much, but it sounded like one of the audio segments from next week’s episode is an apology, which I’m assuming is from Alisa towards Lenka because of how weak she was. It’s very possible that it may prompt her to at least tell him a little bit about her past or something. Another piece to get from the preview…it seems that despite Alisa’s declaration this week that Lenka’s God Arc is dead, it will likely be brought back. I’ll be upset if there’s some lame excuse like “it’s because the weapon is a New Type”. I guess we’ll see.

God Eater Episode 5: Is this the big bad?

Someone explain to me why this Black Vajra seemed to be excessively interested in targeting defenseless civilians. Was it just to spite the main characters? I would think that the most logical plan of attack would be to kill Lenka and rip him apart while he was pinned by one of those blades. That would ensure that one fewer person could attack it…you know, since Lenka had a weapon and was actually being aggressive towards it. Plot armor is a scary thing.

Anyway, next week can either have Lenka and Arisa fend for themselves on the outside or it could just start with Lenka waking up on a bed after his team saves him. While they shouldn’t have much of an issue surviving outside, having come from the outside originally, I suppose it gives them time to bond and gives the story an opportunity to show what life is like on the outside.

God Eater Episode 4: New unit

So we’re back after a week’s break. This week’s episode introduces Lenka into his new unit with his suspension now gone. I was more expecting him to create his own unit with Alisa and Kouta, but it looks like he will just be joining up with Lindow’s team (probably because they’re still too new to send out alone). As for the combat itself, I honestly wasn’t expecting Alisa to be so much of a maverick in the field…it makes her all the more annoying to me. Why don’t they just team her up with Soma since they seem to match in personality? Maybe because they would clash too much to be productive?

I think the main thing to take away from this week’s episode is that there seems to be some form of end goal in sight with the introduction of the island Aegis. I’m still not sure how that island can hold all of humanity given that the giant fortress they built can’t even take in any more survivors, but who am I to question their logic? From the preview piece at the end, I wasn’t really able to get too much about the next episode, but my guess (and probably my hope) is that we might get some more information about Lenka’s life before becoming a God Eater.
