Cross Ange Episode 4: Sabotage

Well, lack of World Trigger this week has brought me back to this show (it just doesn’t know when to quit). Not much has really changed this week…the team went from hating Ange for being a whiny brat to hating Ange for being a berserker that out-performs them. Hard to believe they’d take out an ally, but I guess it sorta is a competition for compensation for these missions…

Anyway, it looks like the guy from the opening song will finally come into play. I guess he saved Ange from drowning in Vilkiss after she crashed. What exactly will his role be? And why did he tie her up (he looked a bit surprised to see her, but I guess it could just be surprise for seeing her awake)? The preview suggests the start of a romance with some tender moments talking to each other…

Cross Ange Episode 3: How many do you need to kill to make a point?

They sure killed off a lot of characters this week. Looks like that should be it for the time being…I guess it was intended to be a jolt to kick things off. It seems like Ange has shrugged off the probability of going “full Luke fon Fabre” since her self-destructive phase seems to be over fairly quickly. I would hope that means she’s less insufferable as a character…these first three episodes have been pretty tough.

I covered this episode so I could hit the three-episode mark. Given what I’ve seen so far, it’s doubtful that I’ll keep posting on this show (still need to decide whether I’ll keep watching). I’m still lost as to what direction this show seems to be heading. Presumably all of this so far has been an introductory phase, which would mean that the actual point should be coming soon. I would assume it’s some sort of revolution, but that would mean Ange would have to go through an entire ordeal to get all of the Norma on her side…

Cross Ange Episode 2: Rebellious phases

They really do enjoy trying to rape Ange on screen, don’t they? Probably my main point of contention with this show (among other things). Besides that, this episode is a lot of Ange acting like a spoiled brat because of her time being a princess (I’m reminded of Luke from Tales of the Abyss). Also, how lame is it that the giant dragons are called dragons as an acronym? Honestly, what else would you call them?

From the preview, it looks like getting someone killed isn’t enough to make Ange lose her rebellious edge just yet (you’d think it would be). I guess next week will be a lot of blame being thrown her way until she finally breaks…looks like it will lead to her first kill. Hopefully she finally cuts her hair (just like Luke) and puts all of her whining behind her…I’m being reminded of things I don’t want to remember (if she’s a clone of the real Princess Angelise, I’m walking).

Cross Ange First Impressions (1): Let’s not comment on that last scene

I’ve always had a soft spot for mobile suits that can transform between a mobile suit mode and a flight mode. The story is a familiar setup of the princess, Ange, who falls from grace after she is discovered to be a Norma, humans that can disrupt mana. They made this “twist” pretty obvious with her excessive racism toward the Norma child on the street in the beginning of the episode. She is brought to an island with a bunch of other Norma girls who are tasked with fighting dragons…for whatever reason. They’re going to have to explain that one…why do dragons factor into the picture?

I can get behind the opening song for this show. It’s not super stellar, but it’s alright. The visual aspect of the opening song is pretty suspect, though, including one part that reminded me a lot of Gundam Seed Destiny (Commie seems to have had some fun with that scene as well). Was it just me or did the soundtrack seem a bit off in some parts of the episode? There was a song that seemed to have a vocal part playing during the lacrosse game…it felt strange hearing that when they’re just standing around talking about the game. A lot of the scenes in this episode were just sketchy to me…I’m having a hard time staying convinced to continue covering this. I’ll probably be choosing between this and Gundam Reconguista.
