Captain Earth Final Episode (25): Save the world

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 25 [720p].mkv_snapshot_17.00_[2014.09.25_06.58.38]

It looks like they went with the happy ending after all. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Hana might die in this final episode. Still, I’d say the only unresolved thing in this series was the girl with the recorder. Did we ever really find out who that was? She appears in the final episode, but I can’t remember an explanation of what her purpose actually was. I suppose it’s not super important.

Well, I think this show wasn’t too bad. The ending was pretty standard with the power of love and friendship saving everyone. I thought it was pretty funny that Daichi left Teppei and Akari behind for his final battle against Puck. If Teppei hadn’t transported Akari back with the Nebula, I was expecting an ending where Daichi transports the Blume back to Oberon for it to explode, then transports everyone back to Earth.

Captain Earth Episode 24: The true enemy appears

Well, it looks like Puck finally made its move. For an AI, it has a pretty generic world domination mission. The whole thing with the Ego Block regeneration from this episode…I’m not sure how it’s relevant. I understand that it was supposed to be a way to coerce Teppei into joining the other side, but it became pretty useless pretty quickly with Puck’s entrance. I wonder if it is supposed to be relevant again in the final episode…

Next week is the final fight against Puck to save the Earth. The preview makes it sound a lot like on of the main characters will be sacrificed to win the fight…I’d say it’s probably Daichi, but he has so much plot armor. Although, at this point, I wouldn’t be all too surprised no matter who they chose to sacrifice.

Captain Earth Episode 23: Finally time for the mission?

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 23 [720p].mkv_snapshot_19.56_[2014.09.11_06.47.00]

Well, this episode seemed like a pretty big waste of time. The entire thing turns out to be a hallucination by Daichi that distracts him for a bit before he can destroy the Garm Engine…nothing sinister about it. I don’t really understand why they needed to devote an episode to this…there really isn’t all that much more from this episode that I can talk about.

Honestly, I was starting to think Daichi got captured by the Planetary Gears because of how much they appeared in his hallucination. Anyway, it looks like next week will be the start of the big fight against all of the Kiltgang (not that we’ve gotten through all of the distractions). Based on the preview, it sounds a lot like Daichi will be fighting by himself…time for him to show off, I guess.

Captain Earth Episode 22: Lots of potential death flags…

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 22 [720p].mkv_snapshot_08.55_[2014.09.03_06.44.17]

Well, that was a weird end to the episode, suggesting that all of the events leading up to this point were a dream by Daichi. Presumably, next week will reveal what the true nature of Daichi’s dream is. I’m assuming it’s a hallucination that will end, returning the story back to the critical moment that was interrupted. Maybe Daichi will realize something important that will save the team.

Of course, the other option is that the dream is being induced by someone, possibly the Garm Engine, but it’s a bit less likely because Salty Dog didn’t seem like they intended to leave anyone but Hana alive. A lot of moments in this episode really made me apprehensive about the survival of the main characters at the end of the series. Should I be expecting character death? I guess we’ll see…

Captain Earth Episode 21: Well, that was convenient

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 21 [720p].mkv_snapshot_19.54_[2014.08.28_06.42.36]

There was definitely a moment in this episode where I really couldn’t tell whether Teppei would live or die. A lot of the hints leading up to this episode seemed to hint that they’d be willing to let him die, but I guess it’s still too early for that. I’m a bit curious about how he survived, though…was that his singularity? I wasn’t aware that he could still use that…

Next week looks like it might be that last preparatory episode before the final assault on the Oberon. It looks like there’s still one more Salty Dog weapon that needs to be destroyed before the operation can begin. With regards to the final battle, I’m guessing this episode solidified the safety of Teppei, so there will probably be no major casualties…

Captain Earth Episode 20: Salty Dog keeps getting saltier

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 20 [720p].mkv_snapshot_21.36_[2014.08.21_06.49.46]

This week, Teppei and Akari finally have their own moment. The couples of the show have finally been established before the impending final battle. Something that had me curious during the episode was whether Teppei or Ai recognized the other…or at the very least suspected the true identity of the other. Based on their reactions, it didn’t really seem like it, I guess.

It looks like next week, the group will have to deal with both the Ark Faction/Salty Dog and the Planetary Gears. But why does the preview only show Teppei fighting the debris outside? Does that mean Hana and Daichi will be tied up dealing with Hirosue and Ai within the Tenkaidou? Either way, I can’t help feeling a sense of apprehension for these characters given their confessions before the final fight…

Captain Earth Episode 19: Time to begin the plan?

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 19 [720p].mkv_snapshot_01.43_[2014.08.14_06.15.28]

So what was the point of giving Hana the Flare Engine if they were just going to trap her in the Blume for the final plan? Is that supposed to mean that Akari will inherit the Flare Engine? Also, I’m not entirely sure I buy this “trapped in the Blume” thing. From her flashbacks, it looked more like Hana was the one who decided to leave the Blume when she noticed the light from Daichi. Are we sure she can’t just leave by herself?

All of the dramatic flashbacks surrounding Hana really do make me wonder about her ending with Daichi…it look suspiciously like a romance ending is out of the question. Anyway, it looks like next week the Planetary Gears will be making their move on the Globe satellite. Haven’t seen those guys in a while…

Captain Earth Episode 18: Ambush

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 18 [720p].mkv_snapshot_14.39_[2014.08.07_06.45.08]

I guess it’s about time Daichi was proven useful. He hasn’t been doing all too much in the recent battles. When Teppei was saying that Daichi might lose something important someday if he keeps thinking the same way, I was expecting some cheesy retort like “I would have lost something important today if I had run” or something. But I guess things work out for now.

The group isn’t quite out of the woods yet. Next week, they’ll have to deal with Salty Dog some more. From the preview, it looks like Hana will once again try to sacrifice herself to save the other two. It’s possible she ends up being captured this time to add some drama to the story.

Captain Earth Episode 17: The salt is real

[HorribleSubs] Captain Earth - 17 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.36_[2014.07.31_06.12.51]

I guess this week’s episode was devoted to allow Teppei and Daichi show off to Salty Dog. One could only hope they would be more amenable now that their Cerberus defense system failed so horribly. I’m also guessing that the backdoor Akari found this week to shut down the Kiltgangs is useless going forward? The fact that she seems so useful as a hacker really suggests that there won’t be another engine for her to pilot.

I can’t believe they devoted time this week to showing the expansion sequences for both Nebula and Earth Engines. Imagine how much time will be wasted when they decide to expand all three. Anyway, the preview looks like Salty Dog is still going to be the main obstacle for the time being. I’m assuming the Planetary Gears are going to take some time to get ready for their full invasion. Is that going to be before or after Globe’s full invasion?

Captain Earth Episode 16: That was lucky

[Commie] Captain Earth - 16 [FB5F5751].mkv_snapshot_18.25_[2014.07.24_06.26.38]

It looks like the Planetary Gears that had their Machine Goodfellows intercepted before they could become Kiltgang are still relevant after all. Is it because Setsuna is able to give them another chance or have they always been able to try again like that? Either way, it looks like all of the Planetary Gears will start getting their chance to fight as Kiltgang. Also, Hana’s first fight doesn’t really showcase all too much of her ability. Sure, she’s able to dodge a few shots with some precognition, but her victory is ultimately a lucky break. Teppei seemed more effective in his first fight in the Nebula Engine…

It looks like next week, Salty Dog will once again become relevant. It looks like they intend to stand in Globe’s way to prevent a way against the Kiltgang…but how exactly are they planning on doing it? There are also a couple of things in this episode that bother me. First, Setsuna mentions the disappearance of Lappa (that’s her squirrel, right?). Is this supposed to signify the possibility of her betraying the Planetary Gears like Teppei did? Also, the entire team makes plans to go to a summer festival together after the final mission, the attack on Oberon…that’s usually a pretty scary flag.
