Another Episode 4

So after the big ending from last week, Sakuragi ends up dying. The gossip around the school reveals that one person from class 3 will die each month. Later, Kouichi ends up having lunch with the nurse, Mizuno, asking her about Mei. Afterwards, he runs into a classmate, and they are both nearly crushed by a glass pane. Kouichi returns to the doll shop and once again runs into Mei. Kouichi tries to ask her to tell him the rest of the story, but she just disappears on him.

Back in class, rumors start to fly, but everyone still agrees not to tell Kouichi anything. Kouichi notices this strange behavior and called Teshigawara and Akazawa, insisting that they explain, but they still refuse. Mizuno calls Kouichi about Mei, saying her brother freaked out when her name was mentioned. However, the elevator Mizuno is on malfunctions and she is killed.

Sigh…I was going to say something here to the effect of “I’m pretty sure that nurse is gonna die,” but then she goes and does it! How inconsiderate. Well, since the deaths seem restricted to one per month, it’s possible that Kouichi’s classmates may be more willing to tell him the rest of the story now that the quota has been met for June. I thought it was weird that Mei chose not to go to school with Kouichi. I wonder if she knew that another one of his classmates or even Kouichi himself would die that day if she did. It’s possible that Mizuno’s death was directly caused by her not going to school.

Although it’s becoming more clear that something supernatural is at work, I still want to believe that Mei is a victim, rather than some sort of ghost that’s killing people in spite or something. Maybe the librarian is causing the curse and she’s some unfortunate girl caught up in it. I definitely want to find out…I think I look forward to watching this series each week more than any other.

  1. At least the nurse’s death was a bit less… completely horrible than umbrella girl’s.

Also, is it me or is the crow/raven/black bird either symbolizing something or just flat-out being the ‘avatar’ of whatever’s (or whoever’s) killing off everyone?

  2. Mei was present for the first death but not the second (probably) so there is a good chance she isn’t the killer due to inconsistency. I think she could be some sort of warning and the cousin she mentioned (Another) could be the actual reason people are dying.

    1. I could see it, although part of me wonders why – if your theory’s true – Mei doesn’t just come out and tell people.

Assuming people who aren’t Sakakibara can see her (not counting umbrella girl), anyway.

I was honestly expecting Sakakibara’s (sister/aunt/whatever) dying this episode. The doll that fell had a pretty decent resemblance to her.

            1. I’d say that’s a momentary lapse in judgement, assuming Ace’s theory is right.

I mean… Let’s assume she *really* cares about him and wants to tell him, knowing that she could die/get injured if she does. Going on this theory, her ‘so close’ moments have been just nearly-fatal slips of the tongue, thus she goes back to not saying anything.

            2. That’s a really enticing theory. I’d really hate for Mei to just go crazy and say “yeah, I’ve been killing everyone…time to kill you too.” I’m resisting the urge to read the manga and find out more

              1. That would be a horrible way to end everything. I still think she’s killing people off, but for a more… ends justifies the means reason, if that makes sense.

Alternatively, Kouchi’s bringing about their deaths somehow (Mei did say his name was linked with death, after all).
