Gakkou Gurashi Final Episode (12): Another one done

Wow, I wasn’t expecting it to be so easy to clear all of the zombies out…but then again, I suppose it’s better than expecting Yuki to somehow fight her way through them all. I’ll reiterate what I said in last episode’s post about liking the fact that the story pushed the idea that Yuki could be more effective with her sanity, despite how much everyone was enabling her throughout the series. Basically, it’s the idea that while it’s less painful to remain ignorant, it’s usually much less practical as well. As a side note, I wanted to point out that if these students’ families were hiding out in their homes, Yuki just pretty much screwed them by sending zombies there…fun thing to think about, right?

As a whole, I’d say that this series was pretty interesting for me to watch…a lot of interesting psychological implications. That being said, I would argue that there could have been less fluff, but I mostly understand why they were there (to keep everyone from thinking this was The Walking Dead for Japan, I’m guessing). The question still remains what exactly the side effects of the experimental drug used to cure Kurumi were, but I don’t think a second season is really necessary to answer that. Let’s be honest…how fun would a second season be without Yuki’s delusions?

Gakkou Gurashi Episode 9: Not much going on

GATE has been delayed a day this week, so I’m doing this instead. It’s kind of a pain, though…this week’s episode is actually really uneventful, so I would have liked to have bundled it together with next week’s episode in a single post. This week’s episode essentially just showed the group cooling down a bit (quite literally) after the revelations from last week’s episode.

The only event of real substance in this week’s episode happens at the very end of the episode, where the zombified body of Megumi comes shambling up to Taroumaru. This scene, while coming at somewhat surprising timing in the episode, is actually really common in zombie-related series. The use of the body of a loved one is generally used to stir up dissent in the survivors because they are more hesitant to kill a zombie they recognize. We’ll see if this series decides to go down that route as well…it’s also possible that Megumi’s body is purposely kept intact so that she can be restored somehow.
