So Gilgamesh is going to be the one completing the Grail after all. I’m sure most people are happy to see Shinji as the vessel (I can’t say I disagree with them). Gilgamesh also reveals that the Grail War is a way to trick the Servants into fighting each other to fill the Grail with their souls. On the Archer side, is it wrong of me to be suspicious about his death this week? I just have this feeling that he wouldn’t leave the series so easily.
Given that there are still four episodes remaining, I’m going to guess that next week’s episode will be a fairly slow preparation episode for the final fight. There doesn’t seem to be anything heated going on in the preview either. There are only so many characters still alive in this series, so I’m curious how they’re planning on spending the rest of the time.
So it’s finally revealed that Archer is Shirou’s future self, driven mad by the betrayal of others he tried to help by sacrificing his own humanity. It’s never said in words, but heavily implied, so I’m just going to run with it. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the battle between Shirou and Archer in the Unlimited Blade Works, though. Did it just skip a scene? Were the production costs of just showing the UBW too high?
I’m also similarly bothered by the fact that Rin was able to become a Master again so easily…if all you need is a Servant willing to accept you to refresh your Command Seals, that seems far to easy to exploit. Anyway, is next week’s episode not the battle between Archer and Shirou? The preview seems to feature Lancer. Also, the last scene in the episode reminds me…what exactly happened to Assassin when Caster died?
So it looks like we’re moving to Caster now. I’m not sure I would have remembered who her master was if I hadn’t watched Carnival Phantasm (don’t judge me). Caster’s Noble Phantasm is one that’s easy to remember, though…not that I’m going to be the one who gives it away now. On the “normal life” side, everyone is obviously super suspicious of Shirou living together with Saber, so now it’s a party (Shirou harem unite?).
Next week, it looks like Rin may turn on Shirou for a bit…obviously it won’t go anywhere because it’s her route, but it looks like something’s going to upset her about Shirou. That extra female voice in the preview…Caster, I’m assuming? Is she going to interrupt the altercation and reveal her master plan?
As someone who has seen the original Fate/stay Night and the UBW movie, this series is pretty awkward for me to approach. I’m assuming this first episode was meant to give the numerous Tohsaka Rin fans out there something to gush about. I admit she’s a better character than Emiya Shirou is, but I’m guessing the focus switches back to him from here on out. If you add in the bits from the “preview” segment with the fact that this episode is called a prologue, it makes sense that next week will be a re-telling from Shirou’s perspective.
The songs at the end both sounded pretty sweet. The first half sounded like it might be an opening song, which inspires a bit of confidence. The second half sounded like another piece from the soundtrack…no complaints here. I still think it’s very difficult for me to stay relevant when talking about this show given how much I know of the story…I guess I still have some time to make a decision.
