I’m pretty sure Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry and Tai-madou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai were the only other LN adaptations I watched, so let’s go over them quickly. First, let’s start with Tai-madou…to be honest, there’s nothing really special here. In fact, the story plays out how I would expect a visual novel to go…the guy just systematically goes through each female character and plays out her story. I really wish the witch vs. witch hunter story was fleshed out more, but honestly, it’s really hard to tell the difference between the two when I’m watching. I felt like I was constantly being reminded of “oh, these guys are witch hunters”.
But let’s move on the Rakudai. This series was surprising in that the main character decides to actually pick a heroine from his harem early rather than spending the entire series awkwardly suggesting it to her. The series also ends on an actual resolution…sure there’s the possibility of a second season going into the big tournament, but you could easily end the series here and feel mostly okay. That being said, this series was largely ignored in the season, so it’s very painful to watch. Encoding is done poorly on many episodes, so they just sound terrible, and subtitle English can be a bit of a chore to decipher. So…yeah…let’s end on that.
