This week’s conversation between Shoutarou and Sakurako is actually something that you see in medical dramas a lot (I can’t say for certain whether it’s actually common in the medical field because I’m not a doctor). The situation with the cat is very similar to a family who refuses to allow a doctor to perform an autopsy as an act of “preserving the body”. I think it was actually ironic that Shoutarou questioned Sakurako’s empathy (the anime might have used the word “morality”?) when he didn’t even consider the possibility himself that displaying the cat’s bones as a specimen is probably a show of affection from Sakurako.
So based on the information we have so far, it seems like Sakurako took the cat bones to use as a comparison for her own cat’s bones to try and solve her mystery. But is that all? Surely the unsolved case file at the end of the episode wasn’t just her cat’s death, right? I would have thought it would be related to the main mystery of the episode, the burned bones from the classroom. Anyway, I’m really curious to see how everything ties together next week.
