Starting out the new season with some Gundam. This episode really seemed to jump into things without much explanation. The episode starts with the main character, Bellri Zenam, out on a maintenance run when the orbital elevator is attacked by pirates (nothing new here). He is able to capture the Gundam, so far only dubbed “G”, and finds that he can pilot it despite the assertion from the pilot, Aida Surgan, that only she can enter the cockpit. Not much is really explained about this Gundam or about the one who was originally piloting it, Raraiya Monday, but I guess there’s some sort of link between Aida and Bellri.
I’m alright with the opening song so far…it sounds like the sort of song that will grow on me as time goes. The ending song is pretty sub-par from first impressions…we’ll see how that goes. The opening song also shows a couple of pretty common elements in Gundam series, like the fact that the “G” will have a few customization options and the presence of a masked antagonist. Anyway, here’s hoping this doesn’t end up turning out like Gundam AGE, right? I’m not totally convinced about this series just from the first episode, so I’ll probably watch a couple more to make my decision. And yes, I know the second episode is out…I’ll get to it.
