Hataraku Maou-sama Episode 9: I still think Ashiya is useless

[Commie] Hataraku Maou-sama! - 09 [4A72931F].mkv_snapshot_17.57_[2013.06.04_11.29.49]

Holy crap, Ashiya…were you making this story up in your free time or did you just freestyle that? Because if the latter is true, then I’m impressed. Anyway, the food wars continue. Somehow MgRonalds got the advantage back with the bamboo tree, but there was that purple glow to consider. Seemed like some magic was cast and Suzuno noticed.

The Sentucky dude is still suspicious to me, but would he cast the spell on the bamboo tree? That doesn’t seem to make much sense. Either way, are Emi and Maou gonna spend some quality time together next week? I’d laugh if they went on a date. Looks like Suzuno will be around too, I guess.

  1. What, Ashiya is like the only character in this series that actually has a head on his shoulders. There’s basically nothing he can’t do.

It seems James is the villain of this story arc (i.e. the one who attacked Emi a few episodes ago), though it seems a bit too obvious, even for Hataraku Maou-sama.

  2. Well, he is a demon general… he’s got to be good at persuasion.

I’ve always been wondering what the heck Ashiya’s been doing. It’s awfully off-setting when you consider his role as simply a gender-reversed housewife; although it seems somewhat progressive, switching him back into being female just shows the underlying sexism behind the show….

Housework (especially for such a shitty quasi-closet) can’t take up all of his time… and he’s gone nowhere with his library stuff either. Honestly, with his charisma (all his generals have to be someone, right??), he could be off doing so many other things; yet, Maou unwittingly (or intentionally?) confines him to home….

Ultimately, it’s not Ashiya’s fault that he’s so useless. You see that he wants to be useful, but can’t; at least, not in a human form. Or at least not until the author decides that y’know what, Ashiya’s actions are just completely retarded.

At least he’s more useful than Lucifer.
